Just thought I'd continue to fill out our prep sports threads with this shameless plug. Ya been thinking about starting a lot of those shameless thread plugs......  CDM baseball under new coach Kevin McCaffrey is undefeated at 5-0-1 (tie game called due to weather with CDM having bases loaded in the 4th  ). Looks like Sunset has a big front runner however in Huntington Beach the 32 ranked school in OC. I think NH and CDM are next in line with maybe FV. I'm new to Sunset Sand Lot Ball..... |

Edison off a big shut out win over MD visits the Sea Kings at 3 pm today to kick off the Sunset League opener for both teams. Hard to make a prediction here with the Chargers winning 4 in a row at 6-3 and CDM undefeated at 5-0-1 with giving up just 4 runs in 6 games.

I'm told Mater Dei's starting pitcher for today's Trinity League opener is 6'11". (LeRon Ellis Jr.?) Will try to catch the first few innings today.

Close game. Servite needed a strike out with the bases loaded to end the game 3-1. The tall kid for Mater Dei was all of 6'11" but was wild in the 1st, giving up a double and walking three, but got out of a bases-load one-out jam in the 2nd with a K and fly out. The series moves to Mater Dei tomorrow and should be a good one. Servite came into the season with lowered expectations from last year's senior-laden team; only three seniors among the starters this year, but the youngsters have done surprisingly well, including a freshman pitcher in the starting rotation. The most recent CIF-SS baseball poll has Servite #8 and Mater Dei #9 in D-1. cifss.org/sports/baseball/polls/ |

Finale of the Servite-Mater Dei Trinity League opening series:
After a nightmare top of the first where the Monarchs scored 5 runs, Servite comes back with 3 in the 1st and 2 in the 2nd to tie it up 5-5. Then this in the bottom of the 3rd:
Now heading into the top of the 7th, 11-7 Friars.
Monarchs mounting a comeback:
Nail biter......but the game ends 11-10. Great game and great series. A lot closer than the 3-0 series result indicates.
