Imagine trying to have a discussion with her when she is wrong about something. Oy vey. My grandfather was a General Contractor and my dad helped him when he was a teenager and early 20’s. Her efforts reminded me of something they would say, any time they would make some kind of mistake: ”I don’t understand it: I’ve cut it back twice, and it’s still too short.”

Yes, they do vote, however rarely is it for the person they were intending to vote for.

I was the General Manager of the Black Angus in Montclair when this game was played. So I got to watch it live on the big screen in the lounge.
i was already an Angels fan, but one simply cannot dismiss great baseball moments (hint: speed ahead to 6:50 if you don’t need to see Eckersley pitch him to a 3/2 count)

I think you may have intended for this to be on the “old time sports” thread, but since you bring it up……………….
Vin Scully’s announcing of the event may have been as epic as the homerun itself. The game must have been a Saturday evening approximately 4 PM game because I remember watching it in the trainer’s room at Saddleback College just before a 7pm kickoff. We were supposed to be on the field but none of the trainers or myself wanted to leave until we saw what happened. I heard later that some of the coaches were screaming "Where the hell is Brad? Where’s the doctor?"
We went sprinting out onto the field shortly before kickoff, got some vile looks but were forgiven – I think - once we related the story…………………..Luca

Anything I find that might momentarily take our minds off the flotsam and the jetsam, I will put in here, and I invite everyone to do the same. Not jokes, though, because we have another thread for those.

How's this for memory lane? It even precedes the hot fudge cake.

The one on Euclid, almost across the street from the Anaheim Plaza:
in the door, down to the right, big corner booth on the end: I remember sitting there, facing N/E, reading that very menu as if there was the slightest chance I’d order anything other than a Big Boy Combo and a chocolate shake.

In 2020, you'd have to clarify whether Bob was just a Big Boy, or a Trans Big Boy. On second thought, Big is a pejorative for fat, and Boy is a pejorative for a black man, so the whole name thing requires rethinking.

This is a tough one, actually. "Bob" is clearly an anachronistic gender-binary appellation. "Bobbie" is occasionally used by cis-gender individuals with two X chromosomes, but for that reason again it's too noninclusive.
We need a nonjudgmental, all-inclusive name for the clearly gender fluid icon-formally-known-as-"Bob."
Pat? Lex? Moonbeam? MDDad? We need to get a consensus here.
Further, "big" can be used as a closet pejorative for the body-mass-index disadvantaged. Possible alternatives include "othersized", "gravitationally challenged", or the current widely used but mediocre "plus-sized."
"Boy" is clearly a remnant of the white male aristocracy's well-documented penchant for using hidden symbols and signs to oppress people of color, other examples being statues of Ulysses Grant and Abraham Lincoln, memorials to 9/11, and Mount Rushmore. Some of our naïve, unawakened colleagues have suggested the word "human", not realizing that the presence of the derivative "man" clearly suggests XY superiority/dominance. How long, oh Lord?
Similarly, "personage" is clearly unacceptable given its middle syllable. "Biped" should be considered, implying as it does the obvious equality of all primates and the rejection of the speciesist assumption of homo sapiens superiority.
"Soul"? "Individual"?
Personally, I would have to go with "Moonbeam's Other-Sized Biped". Granted, it doesn't quite roll off the tongue but I'm confident none of us will be offended which, after all, is the purpose of the English language.
Other opinions are welcome..............................Luca

Imagine, skid marks on a street. That's driven on by cars every day.
This is now a "gesture of hate."
But are the skid marks in the shape of a noose?

"Biped" should be considered, implying as it does the obvious equality of all primates and the rejection of the speciesist assumption of homo sapiens superiority. Are you freakin' kidding me now? "Biped" is a slap in the face at anyone who has undergone the tragedy of having a leg amputated, including many of our military who served in combat. Furthermore, it ignores or trivializes those individuals who have three legs, such as legendary porn star John Holmes. You obviously dashed this off without giving it the thought or respect it deserves, so back to the drawing board, good doctor.
