I was reading lately that Hebrew became a lost language like Latin after the Romans dispersed Israel. Hardly anyone knew Hebrew until earlier last century (or was it the 1800s) that some Jews moved back to the homeland and the parents insisted on their children speaking Hebrew. Now the language is back after a century or two.

Under the heading of "Unintended Consequences of our Actions," I noticed something this morning... I'm reading through the Bible chronologically and today, I was in Genesis 16-21. Mostly about Abraham and Sarah (who started as Abram and Sarai). God promises to make Abraham, who has no children at 100 years old, the father of many nations, who's descendants will one as innumerable as the stars in the sky. Abraham tells his wife who is 90-something and well past child bearing years and they both doubt. So Sarah (Sarai at that point) mentions her age while suggesting Abraham has sex with her Egyptian maid, Hagar (not Sammy), and Ishmael is born who is foretold in Genesis 16 with "...He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”" Eventually, Isaac is born and Sarah gets jealous of Ishmael so has Abraham banish Hagar and Ismael. Abraham doesn't want to do it, but petitions God who assures him Ishmael will also inherit a blessing of being the progenitor of many people so Abraham banishes them and they settle in the Wilderness of Panar, which we know today as Iraq and most of Saudi Arabia.... where Mecca is located, and in 610 BC, Mohammed invented Islam. Hagar gets an Egyptian wife for the Hal-egyptian Ishmael and they start popping out children... God obviously knew about and planned to use Ishmael's offspring, but no way Sarah, Abraham, Hagar (not Sammy), or Ishmael could have foreseen the launch of the centuries of Arab/Israeli conflict that would develop from their seemingly not-so-innocent decisions. Something else I noticed. Genesis 18 and 19 record the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and how Lot and his family were told to beat feet out'a there before the valley was destroyed. His two daughters were engaged to two guys who refused to flee with them so the fiancé's were destroyed, along with everyone else, leaving the girls without... shall we say... outlets for their, ahem, yah-yah's. so they got their father drunk on two separate nights and each daughter slept with him, resulting in both becoming pregnant. (this is the "unintended consequences" part) The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab, and he became the progenitor of the Moabites. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi who became the starting point of the Ammonites. NOW, look at the map that shows where the Moabites and the Ammonites settled: Once Israel became a nation and started improving the rocky, hilly land Turkey (the Ottomans) thought they had shackled them with, a group of nomads, today known as Palestinians, arose from this same area.

Genesis 25 records that eventually the 12 tribes of Ishmael's descendants settled in the Panar Wilderness and in Havulah.
Panar Wilderness is NE of what, today, is the Suez Canal, and includes Damascus and (pregnant pause) The Gaza Strip.
Havulah is the rest of the Saudi Arabian peninsula, and includes Mecca AND the area of Kush, which is mentioned in Ezekiel 38 prophecy about the battle of Armageddon...

Neat stuff Dave. Moab... Ruth was a Moabite I think. I think the Israelites waged war on the Ammorites. No Lot was related to Abraham, I think. So they all were descendants of Abraham.

Yes, Lot was Abraham's nephew who accompanied the family when God told Abraham to move to Canaan. God dealt harshly with the Ammonites for not helping their brethren, the Israelites, when they moved back from Egypt. Then, Saul went against God's command to leave them alone, and h conquered them and enslaved them... King David eventually following suit. Over time, the Ammonites became pagan worshippers with Molech being their chief deity (he's the one to whom they sacrificed babies).

This is why religion is such a dangerous concept. Idiots who think they know what God wants hastening to destroy everything. How very Christian. This is why far-left ideology is such a dangerous concept. Idiots who have no concept of God hastenting to destroy everything. How very enlightened.

I'm so disgusted by what has happened to this country, that I say bring it on, and let's get it over with, once and for all. This is why religion is such a dangerous concept. Idiots who think they know what God wants hastening to destroy everything. How very Christian. A couple of things here that show you might consider refraining from comment until you know what you're talking about: - Religion IS a foolish concept, but not a dangerous one. Religion is man-made and often to pit one tradition against another. No one is harmed, per se, but many are deluded and ego-driven.
- the "idiots" (your word) spoken of in the text on which the Professor commented has nothing to do with anyone thinking they know what God wants. His comment was made about the Battle of Armageddon, which was/is a foretelling of what is yet to come but not what God wants: Simply what will be.
- No, it is not at all "very Christian." That battle, insofar as I can determine, will be waged by European powers against Israel. I cannot even find any reference to the United States so either we are not a super power by then, or we decide to stay out of it (which, given our current politics, would seem to me to be more likely).

Matthew 13:47-50
The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. =========snip===========

I have not previously noticed it will be the Angels separating us.

I have not previously noticed it will be the Angels separating us. If the Angels are going to separate the good from the evil, I only hope that when my turn comes up that evaluation is not done by a pitcher.

When we were in Jerusalem, we took a side trip to a Midgal Eder near the Temple. We were told, since Mary's family raised sheep for the temple sacrifices it was likely she and Joseph would have gone to their midgal eder for refuge during the census, after finding there was no room at the inn. I found this article interesting in support of the possibility that Jesus was born in a manger, there, instead of at a random barnyard: medium.com/mormon-writers/the-true-birthplace-of-christ-the-tower-of-the-flock-97d02dcbb885
