Who could afford that besides Mater Dei and Bosco? In a really good year, the top teams can compete with everyone except those two. Bick, what would a separate public/private bracket look like in the current rankings?

It would be subsidized by national sponsors...Gatorade...Nike/Adidas...Riddel...Ford...Farmers insurance...Fox Sports, etc.
Figure total out of pocket for travel for 16 teams
8-4-2-2 is about $150k per, or $2.4 MM.
Those sponsors are already paying at the local level. Think there might be some national level interest that would generate the viewership to pay for it?

In fact, how about this... Take the top 16 teams per maxpreps at the end of the regular season, and put them in a national tournament. The rest can stay behind and play for their state championships. You like that idea? No, because it's totally unreasonable. I'd be for it if the playoffs were conducted during the summer when the kids don't have to miss eight to 12 days of school, and if you pay all those travel expenses. You like that idea?

Clearly I'm suggesting something that isn't yet in place, but it would only be interesting to teams who would prefer to actually play against the best schools in the country v being awarded some mythical national championship so they could put signs up outside their stadium or put it on their website.

MDDad, I would shy away from creating or forming a league based on any standard employed by any higher powers that be. I would base it on schools that would willing want to do so based on how they are running their own programs. If MV and LA are taking in multiple transfers all the time then play "like" schools or make up a league of "like" schools that employ your same means of running a program . Like you said, schools filling needs with specialized skill players is not really for the most part how high school football works for the majority. And to think this way you can leave the school(s) with trillion dollar costs that are handicapped by such costs out of all of this...!! One would think these trillionaires would be able to afford the housing and limos for these families... sheesh! I can however tell you this, even if they, CDM, could buy a team they would not, bringing in outside help to climb the power rankings is not what our program is about. And if that ever changes, I'll be the first to let you know!

What a crock SK80. Don't you get a little tired of your holier than thou "We don't do transfers because we're above it all" bullshit? Didn't you get a QB xfer from San Marcos last year?
Public schools not situated in CDM have kids move to and from all the time. What do public schools get to offer a potential xfer...free education? We picked up 4 or 5 again this year, and lost 4 or 5...pretty much like it's been every year.

Bick, what would a separate public/private bracket look like in the current rankings? Based on Maxpreps final rankings on 5/21 PRIVATE 1) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) v. St. Bernard (Playa del Rey) 8) Alemany (Mission Hills) v. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 5) Loyola (Los Angeles) v. Chaminade (West Hills) 4) Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) v. Paraclete (Lancaster) 3) Servite (Anaheim) v. Bishop Diego (Santa Barbara) 6) Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) v. St. Francis (La Canada) 7) Orange Lutheran (Orange) v. Serra (Gardena) 2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) v. St. Joseph (Santa Maria) PUBLIC 1) San Clemente v. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 8) Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley) v. Edison (Huntington Beach) 5) Apple Valley v. La Habra 4) Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) v. Centennial (Corona) 3) Mission Viejo v. Etiwanda 6) Damien (La Verne) v. Ayala (Chino Hills) 7) Norco v. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 2) Los Alamitos v. Chaparral (Temecula)

Jesus Christ @ Bick what an immature response. Never have stated anything CDM does or doesn't do as holier than thou. It's just the way it is. And the every season trying to point out one kid whom ended up at CDM, not by any doing of the school so to say something along the line you do it too is beyond immature and inaccurate.

Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 2) Los Alamitos v. Chaparral (Temecula) Public brackets appear to have more equity. However, with the new system it may be even more so this upcoming season. In the Private bracketing until other schools gain on the top 2 it's always going to serve up less equity. Can Servite keep the momentum? Will Sierra Canyon continue to rise? Alemany has real talent all around, can they ever become a great team? Separation probably isn't in the cards anytime soon, that can has been kicked around many times before, then flattened. Still interesting to take a look at, thanks Bick for taking the time.

In the public bracket, how many schools would have a legit shot at winning... Like 8 or 9?
Private...the same 2 again.
