After week 5, here's what Div 2 brackets & spreads would look like based purely on calpreps ratings:
1- Alemany v. 16- Foothill (+14) 8- Warren v. 9- St Bonaventure (-3) 5- Los Alamitos v. 12- Loyola (+4) 4- Vista Murrieta v. 13- Citrus Valley (+16) 3- Bishop Amat v. 14- Villa Park (+14) 6- Inglewood v. 11- JSerra (+2) 7- Edison v. 10- Corona Del Mar (+7) 2- Lutheran (Orange) v. 15- Cajon (+12)

Funny you posted this i almost did something similar, was thinking out loud at playoffs to myself yesterday and I just had this feeling a private wins D1 & D2....
Would the winner of SM vs OL be the D1 team and the loser the D2 ??
MV will win out easy in league as will CC. Nice showing for the Sunset League w/ 3 teams amongst the 16.

Not necessarily. Norco could drop down.

Not necessarily. Norco could drop down. Being that Norco beat SM handily, one should hope not! My bet is CC beats Norco but that won't drop them but a position, maybe 2.

The rest of the Big VIII is pretty weak compared to the Trinity and mission schedules. Their rating will drop when they don't beat the weaker teams by the 50 pt spread.

anyone hearing that CIF will decide end of season regrading D1 having 8 or 16 teams? So its not 8 teams set in stone? if true, wherever you move the goal post 8 teams in one direction two divisions would look vastly different. Some statement by CIF about where they could, might draw the line...., this was my thought previously, Trinity team takes D2 ....

Depends on whether or not they'd like to see the #5-8 teams play more than 1 game

It's all a zero sum game, Bick. If you want teams 5 through 8 to play more than one game by moving them to D-2, it means teams 21 through 24 are doomed to playing only one game. The mathematical limits of the equation are the number of teams allowed in and the number of divisions, and no matter how you arrange them, half of them will play only one game.

Top 4 in D1 are 3-8 TD favorites v bottom 4.
That doesn't exist in any other division

Top 4 in D1 are 3-8 TD favorites v bottom 4. That doesn't exist in any other division After last night LA is at #9 on Calpreps... could be a sweet spot or not. The loss only dropped CDM from 18 to 19. Looking at that, should we lose to what appears a legit contender in Edison, I suspect we stay in top 24 unless wins against lesser teams drop us which I have noticed more of late, a loss to a high rank team has little movement yet a win against a low rank team can have the bottom fall out!

Yep - you'd have to tank the Battle of the Bay to get into D3

Yep - you'd have to tank the Battle of the Bay to get into D3 LMFAO, not an option. Its like USC vs UCLA, you could go 1-10 as long as that one win is against your rival..... but I won't put that option past some programs out there..., nothing like an accidental loss to make for a good playoff run! Im sure most will have their eyes out for that one..... so don't ya'll take a knee against the Barons!

I'd find it pretty hard to let my kid play for a coach who would consider the strategy of losing one or two key games in order to drop into a lower division and make a run at a ring. It's like the guy who says he identifies as a woman so he can beat up on real women in MMA fights and other sports.

I think the positive here will be to either not be afraid to play up in class as that loss won't hurt so much with more weight on the present season.... Surely Edison trying Servite for example will assure they dont potentially go 10-0 and end up in D1.
