Gaming this system is easy. Don't schedule up and don't blow anyone out. Some coaches on the cusp may even intentionally lose a game. Is it honorable? Absolutely NOT. Is it honorable to take the best players from another school to fill your roster with kids to serve as bench strength, who might not even play for you while you pursue some bullshit mythical national championship? Had this rule been in effect in 2019, you guys would've been 10-1. Would you have been "frustrated", or something else? I wanted to address this, gaming is easy. Not sure I still understand your logic. Don't schedule up? Would not scheduling up be a challenge, and the worst case outcome the loss or losses keep you down just enough? Look at the Calpreps #10, #11, #12 seeds with records of 4-4, 5-3, 4-3, those scheduled up losses are keeping them OUT of D1. Intentionally lose a game, could I see it happening yes, but in the case of your argument, or in most very teams defense, whom or where have you seen this to date? That a big accusation. Take the best players from your school? Are speaking for Los Al, I won't jump to conclusions, I feel you might be, if so, a couple of those guys back lock, stock and barrel you into D1, so same, same, not enough to win CIF. Did you look at from the other perspective, respectfully, maybe adding a couple key players took you to where you are at, from many a perspective that is what likely happened. When publics try and mimic or play the player portal, do they not expect to be better? How do you then control on better to a point but you need to stop on a time at the #8 or #10 seed? It's called off season chess match! Answered your last statement in previous post, yes, still frustrated to this day. Feel your frustration. I think we both share we want whats best for our kids, we want for them what we think or believe they deserve. But the old adage, life is not fair. Play on.

Beating highly rated teams improves your rating more than beating lower rated teams. Losing to highly rated teams also improves your rating.
Given the concept of a bell shaped curve, I think we could safely stipulate there are likely to be a certain % of coaches who would be willing to intentionally lose a game in pursuit of a lower division placement.
Speaking in general terms, there are no public school teams I'm aware of actively promising kids a significant playing role, knowing there are already a couple guys ahead of them that are better.
My comments about this latest iteration of divisional placements is assuming 3 key objectives:
1. Competitive Equity 2. Rewarding the strongest teams 3. Maintaining League level competition
Given 3 teams have dominated the top division for the past decade, it's clear they have outgrown the rest and belong in their own division. The line of demarcation can be flexible in any given year based on whether or not other teams have narrowed the gap. I suggest the gap be 10 points between the bottom team in Division 1 and the top team in Div 2.
I also think the top down approach when establishing each of the subsequent divisions is ass backwards. By doin this, strong teams will miss the playoffs, like possibly JSerra, and weaker teams will get a slot based on their W/L record.

I think you have great playoffs if you made 1-4 the "OPEN" Division, 5-12 D1, and 13-28 D2 and so on...., look at those present match ups top to bottom......
The top 4 would all get their shots at each other, @bick a dream game for best OC Public would be LA vs MV, and D2 would all be close to one possession games.... on paper. Bottom of that would be Foothill and Saugus both 8-1 and very worthy opponents as lowest seeds.

With Mater Dei, Bosco, Servite & Cen10 being 1-2-3-5 in the NATION per calpreps, Div 1 truly is for the nat'l championship. Ready or not - great opportunity for Mission Viejo, Sta Margarita, Los Al & Norco.
I'm pretty sure this is unprecedented in the history of high school football.

was really hoping to see Bosco on the road to start. don't be afraid to play away sometime soon...! yes, if you can go on road for an opening round, the second round being tougher, better chance to be a home team with a tougher game.

Just a stellar fact, southland HSF is paramount! I think you have to take being a part of that @bick is a victory, regardless of who wins or loses from here on out.

With all top 4 home teams in D1 being heavy favorites, it still comes down to coin toss for game 2...unless there's an upset.

If I'm Sierra Canyon I wouldn't want to play JSerra again. Do think that OLu is a step too far for Simi Valley-despite the miracle Jim Benkert has performed at a school where .500 was a good year for the 50 years before he arrived.

Frankie, OLU has played a SOS of 59.2 while Simi 14.6 , their best win is over Saugus which I have heard some good things about.... , outside that their schedule does not resemble anything like the one OLU has played regardless of W/L

Why does this just boil my blood.... lamest of mathematics and handed to my school rival.... ugh! From Steve Fryers 1st and 10////
7. Surprise guest: Newport Harbor finished the regular season 3-7, finished fourth in the Sunset League, so it wasn’t an automatic qualifier for the playoffs, and lost by large margins in its final two games, 35-12 to Corona del Mar and 48-6 to Los Alamitos.
Not only did Newport Harbor get a playoff berth, the Sailors are seeded No. 3 in Division 6 and have a first-round home game against Sunny Hills, 7-3 and the No. 2 team in the Freeway League.

Seeds in the lower divisions are NOTHING like they used to be.
You've got a real good one v. Nico Iamaleava and Warren. Close to being a pick 'em. Same with Edison & Murrieta Valley.
D2...can't wait to see "Wood" dropped on their ass by St. Bonny. So many good games...just like D1.
Game 1: Bishop Diego [Garcia] (Santa Barbara, CA) at Alemany (Mission Hills, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Alemany (Mission Hills, CA) 35-20] Game 2: Yorba Linda (CA) at Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) 35-31] Game 3: Inglewood (CA) at St. Bonaventure (Ventura, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: St. Bonaventure (Ventura, CA) 41-21] Game 4: Murrieta Valley (Murrieta, CA) at Edison (Huntington Beach, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Edison (Huntington Beach, CA) 35-31] Game 5: Simi Valley (CA) at Lutheran (Orange, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Lutheran (Orange, CA) 34-26] Game 6: Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, CA) at Warren (Downey, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Warren (Downey, CA) 28-24] Game 7: Cajon (San Bernardino, CA) at Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, CA) 35-24] Game 8: JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, CA) at Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA) (Friday, November 5th, TBA) [projection: Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA) 28-14]
