By the way, Bick, what is this "sage" bullshit with MDDad? Like you just get a sticker for volume of posts? I think we have to grade on quality as opposed to quantity. Any old retired octegenarian like that with no friends and nothing else to do can post endlessly....................... That would be SENIOR sage to you, Doc. This was a result of the oversight committee reviewing each post for originality and content, followed by the application of a top secret comprehensive algorithm specifically designed to properly evaluate such prose. Unfortunately, the algorithm was on Hillary's server, and no longer top secret. Further, if he were Hispanic, then he would've been SENOR sage. I was overruled by the PC committee here, so we're sticking with just the senior designation. Clear enough?

Catching up on this new--and spirited--thread. Having spent the better part of 2018 hashing out this topic with MDDad at TOB, I'm going to avoid regurgitating my previous takes. I think we reached a pretty good level of detente and--dare I say--mutual respect in our waning days at TOB.
I have my misgivings about recruiting kids for sports alone, particularly if they are coming from public school and/or are out-of-area. IMHO, St. John Bosco is the major culprit in the unfortunate and accelerating arms race that has dominated Trinity League football since 2013. It will probably not happen this year or next, but they are due for a big fall some day, one which will be richly deserved.

The 8th-grade teams that play in the 4-Vertical leagues are a good indicator of the skill players that will enroll in their respective high schools in the fall. Bosco has always been at the top of this league, along with Mater Dei and sometimes Los Alamitos.
This year, the two Bosco teams in the top division are a combined 2 and 10. Jake Negro, Bosco's freshman coach and coach of their 4-Vertical teams is very unhappy and disappointed. Maybe it's a harbinger of the future.

I would caution against putting too much stock in winning the 4-Vertical high school division. The vast majority of the top SoCal players have been playing club 7-on-7 tournaments all over the country since January. Servite's victory in the 4-Vertical league was over teams like Irvine, Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach and Cypress.
And Professor, it's hard to take Servite's side in losing players to Bosco, when in the last several years the Friars have poached seven from Mater Dei.

And a handful of players and coaches from Los Al. C'mon Prof...let's not be casting rocks from our glass houses. I'm guessing you've got 3-5 starters this year that were once wearing lion-eagles gear.

I had my money on either Bick reminding me about all the Los Al players who are at Servite, or Credo backing me up against Bosco. How many years are you going back, in order to get seven MD to Servite transfers? And like I've always said...we'll give up all our transfers, if the rest of the Trinity League will do the same.

I can't think of a single one, starter or otherwise, that fits that description. ??

How many years are you going back, in order to get seven MD to Servite transfers? Just three. Titus Toler, Trent McDuffie, Isaiah Leuta-Ulu, Jeminai Leuta-Ulu, Raymond Leutele, Luca deLancellotti and Jack Kane.

We won't get into how many of those left Mater Dei because of incoming transfers to their positions. And are you sure we got Toler from Mater Dei? He's been to so many schools I lost track. He and McDuffie left Mater Dei for Santa Margarita and so doesn't that mean we got McDuffie from SMCHS? And we won't get into how many of them were senior transfers, or how many stars they had when they came to Servite, or how many didn't have any religion classes under their belts. And we won't talk about Osiris and Amon St.Brown either. And we surely don't want to talk about the Diocesan lawsuit that made it all possible, do we?

The lion-eagles are sometimes referred to as Griffins Ah, that explains it. Yeah, at least three are starters now, and I think they decided they (being former OC Buckeyes) wanted to play with Noah Fifita.

Yeah, use your influence to get CDM to stop playing Trinity League all-star teams.
