How was the recruiting done before at Trinity league schools. They didn't just pull from the neighborhoods, right? SJB is a somewhat private school that takes applications and hands out scholarships, right? I suspect a school like MD and SJB would be the best and brightest in all their studies and athletics.

Anyone who saw last night's Mater Dei-St. John Bosco game live or on television will come away with their own conclusions. However, I have to share two:
(1) The Mater Dei defense is pretty good. This was only the second time in 12 years and 158 games that Bosco was held to seven points or less. The other time was when St. Thomas Aquinas held them to 3 points in the first game of the 2017 season. And the Mater Dei defense starts only one senior - ILB Leviticus Su'a.
(2) Last night's game was also the best argument I can think of for playing high school games in small venues where every seat is filled. The atmosphere was absolutely electric, from the best tailgate party I've seen in over a decade, to fans of both sides celebrating together while being excited and nervous at the same time, to having almost 300 people on the sidelines, including big-time names like Lincoln Riley, to a noise level that would have made it impossible to hear a bomb go off. It beats the hell out of playing a game at Angel Stadium, SoFi Stadium for the freakin' Rose Bowl with 80-90% of the seats empty.

Good Show. What stood out to me was the tailgating in close proximity of these two thought of rivals and even more so the cheering by many parents for both sides calling out players names when they made a good play. It was almost like they were all one team, as if they just picked shirts & skins for a night. Its obvious these kids all played together at one time or another, their families from the same areas and neighborhoods. And with 70 D1 offer kids out there many will team up again in college. A quote from the OCR today, "two of the most successful talent hoarders anywhere in the modern high school game." As for the game itself, very competitive, balanced. Less big plays than we have seen in past years. Better defenses, maybe? Not as many big play guys, probably. It has what felt like on any given day one can top the other. SJB had to go the second half without Clarkson, it was only a 10-3 game until the final moment. SO MD will claim the #1 spot for now, but it wont be easy to keep it. Stay tuned.

I think the backup is a better passer than Clarkson. He looked the part during the summer.
The Bosco radio guys were questioning some of the play calling.

Seems odd Nikko Remigio would declare for the draft with a year of eligibility left

Nikko had a great year, especially as a PR/KR and he was 2nd leading WR, 74 rec 852 yds. This would have been his senior year, the extra year is the covid extra year that was given to everyone. He already has his degree, so no need to stay, I dont think theres anything he can do at college level to get better. Less wear and tear. I could see to stay to improve, but like I said he had a great year to catapult him with momentum into the draft/combine.
