Careful Credo - you're giving them bulletin board material.
MD is truly in a class by themselves. Well done!

Careful Credo - you're giving them bulletin board material. MD is truly in a class by themselves. Well done! You're assuming those guys can read.... No, but seriously, I'm finding some schadenfreude in Jason Negro getting out-football factoried by a school that was never going to allow its pride (ego?) to tolerate someone overtaking the spotlight they believe is theirs alone. What comes around goes around. Old money beats new money.

Up on my whiteboard all this week. And if you even wear red on the La Palma Ave. campus you're in for a severe hazing. And remember..... monarchy is un-American! I unearthed this little gem from the OC Varsity on-campus preview of the Servite-Mater Dei game in 2011, back before "that other school" (as we say around here) decided to become a semi-pro football factory, and featuring interviews with Rollinson, TE Josh Cook, and QB Ryan McMahon. (start at the 3:38 mark)

We'll settle for a rematch in the CIF championship.

Got home to watch the second half last night, have had an inkling of a thought this year it was actually possible that service could pull the upset, last year was an indicator. Watching MD earlier at 7v7 my impression was no one is beating them, not possible. Yet as the season unfolded to date, I saw an offense that could possibly keep pace with MD, that played out last night. Again the depth, size was the difference in the end, great game, great performances on both sides, ya, maybe CIF you get another shot Credo.

Again the depth, size was the difference in the end, great game, great performances on both sides, ya, maybe CIF you get another shot Credo. Best game I've seen in my 11 years at Servite. Look, this is going to sound a bit like sour grapes, but any matchup with Mater Dei, as they are currently constituted (and will be for the foreseeable future) is not a fair fight for any team in the nation. That is not a high school football team in any recognizable way; it's a semi-pro football academy. This is Servite's best team in over a decade--one of our most talented ever--and Mater Dei still has the edge in probably 18 out of the 22 matchups among both starting sides of the ball. The fact that this game was anyone's to win in the 4th quarter (like last Spring's) should be an embarrassment to the Monarchs. I'm sure Raleek Brown is a nice kid, but he has no business playing for any Catholic schools in Southern California. He was already offered by Oklahoma after his freshman year at Stockton Edison, so coming to Mater Dei didn't help his college recruiting one iota--but it sure helped Mater Dei, as he was a difference-maker last night--and was acquired for essentially this kind of game. Cooper Barkate is another one-year rental on his third school in two years. For once I'd like to see a Mater Dei team without any 4-star transfers among its top offensive skill guys. Gotta go back to 2015 for that. That being said, last night proved they are beatable--though it takes an almost perfect game. But if the Friar coaching staff doesn't figure out you need to assign safety help on any route that C.J. Williams is running, then we will fall short again. Tired of seeing us torched by that guy on 3rd and long. p.s. Another consequence of the 4-star upperclassman transfer: Mater Dei might be the first team in the Trinity League to need a section in the stands for the players' kids. Not a good look, Monarchs.

No worry on the "sour grapes" Credo..., a lot of bitter skin around here and the world of late...
I was at last years game, was thoroughly impressed by Servite's effort being outmanned as they were. I know we have beaten around the bush on what constitutes a "high school football" team for years now, they are a high school, just not like any other outside maybe 2 or 3 more in the entire nation.
Your Servite team this year might just be the best ever, in any "off" year (far and few between) for MD this squad wins CIF. Not sure how any school can presently keep pace with what they do, the program they built, the flow of talent geographically is somewhat like you claim, not high school football. But here we are again, imperfect rules, regulations and so on allow a situation like this. Again, we have beyond beaten that dead horse. For most schools or parents, separating the publics and privates would be a step, the talk of these "semi pro academies" one day forming their own leagues is another, but whoever you draw any line, comes a new set of controversies... someone will inevitably be crying foul.

Not a good look, Monarchs. I'm curious...kid gets a gal pregnant, and then takes responsibility. How is THAT not a good look? Better to abort? Abandon? Or are you really suggesting the kids at Servite are all chaste? Hole-E-Er than THOU

The way it's shaping up, we'll be getting our asses handed to us by the winner of that game, and be one and done for the playoffs.

Congrats to Trinity League D1 & D2 CIF-SS CHAMPIONS MD & OLU... .!! Orange County HSF on top.....Honor in losing in D2 to the champs..., I'll take it, if you are gonna lose, lose to the eventual victor. Took 38 against CDM, 42 against Sierra Canyon and 38 against Alemany to get that 'chip. All three on the road....

Bosco losing Bullock send liked a big blue to recruiting, but Sean Kolle leaving Servite seems pretty ominous.

It isn't football, but there will be a Trinity League battle in the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tomorrow. Santa Margarita's Beau Hossler is tied for the lead, with Servite's Patrick Cantlay one stroke behind.
