How many years are you going back, in order to get seven MD to Servite transfers? Just three. Titus Toler, Trent McDuffie, Isaiah Leuta-Ulu, Jeminai Leuta-Ulu, Raymond Leutele, Luca deLancellotti and Jack Kane. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'll bet the total number of games started on the MD varsity by the above group before coming to Servite was ZERO. To be fair, there hasn't been a whole lot of "poaching" of already-established varsity players between MD and Servite since at least going back to 2011. I can't speak to the years before that. Osiris St. Brown is the only guy I can think of in that time who was a varsity starter from either school who transferred between the two. If someone knows of another, let me know.

I would caution against putting too much stock in winning the 4-Vertical high school division. The vast majority of the top SoCal players have been playing club 7-on-7 tournaments all over the country since January. Servite's victory in the 4-Vertical league was over teams like Irvine, Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach and Cypress. And Professor, it's hard to take Servite's side in losing players to Bosco, when in the last several years the Friars have poached seven from Mater Dei. LOL! I was wondering who would reply first. I had my money on either Bick reminding me about all the Los Al players who are at Servite, or Credo backing me up against Bosco. How many years are you going back, in order to get seven MD to Servite transfers? And like I've always said...we'll give up all our transfers, if the rest of the Trinity League will do the same. Bosco is like a 24-hour "massage" parlor that doesn't ID and takes cash, credit, debit, travelers checks, EBT cards, and IOU's for payment. In other words, they're not exactly scrupulous about who they bring in to Bellflower Blvd. Servite lost at least a couple of promising freshman to Bosco at mid-year but--as I predicted on TOB when Troy Thomas was re-hired in February--this is the first time since 2012 that we did not lose a single returning starter to another school this offseason. Now that doesn't mean someone couldn't defect over the summer but it seems unlikely. The days of luring the monochromatic-clad pigskinners from La Palma Ave. are done. Following each of the five seasons that Thomas was away, Servite lost key returning varsity starters to mostly fellow Trinity League schools--all of whom went on to (or will go to) D-1 schools. I dare say there is no school in California (maybe even the nation) who has lost this much starting talent in so short a time. A dubious honor to be sure. And if we do nothing more than staunch this flow, we will be well on our way up the Trinity League standings. Starters lost after each season:2013 - Tony Brown (WR) - La Mirada (Texas Tech) 2014 - Osiris St. Brown (WR) - Mater Dei (Stanford) 2014 - Ryan Burke (LB) - Bosco (Yale) 2015 - Terrell Bynum (WR) - Bosco (Washington) 2016 - Kyle Ford (WR) - OLU (USC) 2016 - Ethan Rae (TE) - OLU (USC) 2017 - Trent McDuffie (CB) - Bosco (Washington) 2017 - Titus Toler (S) - Bosco (Wisconsin) 2017 - Spencer Lytle (LB) - Bosco (Wisconsin) 2017 - Caden Bell (QB) - JSerra (Columbia)

The lion-eagles are sometimes referred to as Griffins Ah, that explains it. Yeah, at least three are starters now, and I think they decided they (being former OC Buckeyes) wanted to play with Noah Fifita. And why do you suppose Noah suddenly decided to be a monk instead of a lion-eagle? Or why a couple Edison OL kids were contacted by proxy to join Friar Tuck? I've got no issue whatsoever if visions of competing for a 4th place finish is enticing enough bait to get parents to jump ship. But let's call a monk a monk, shall we?

Can you enlighten me? Likewise, I have no knowledge about any Edison OL kids either. Are they at Servite now? Are they former OC Buckeyes also?

Is it really poaching if Servite (or any other school) poaches a player from Mater Dei (or any other school) after Mater Dei poached that kid from the school he would have originally gone to? I jump all over the parochial schools, OLU & Mission Viejo for recruiting, but if someone is shopping their kid around like a free agent, then I understand why any recruiting school would try to steal them from any other recruiting school.
I would suggest the initial move from the high school one would go to with no recruiting to the recruiting school would be the only move considered to be a poach. After that, you are just sleeping with the neighborhood slut.

That's a good point. If dad or mom is out pimping their kid, it wouldn't check the poaching box on my ballot.

Choose a school and stick to your commitment. If a kid has talent today he'll get noticed no matter where he's at.

In my senior year at Servite, I believe that none of our offensive linemen topped the 200lb mark. If they did, it wasn't by much.
The team basically consisted of about 50 kids who were all small variations of 5'10", 185 lbs.

I’ve been a team physician on and off since the 1980’s. Back then if you had a lineman that weighed over 210 you were doing pretty good. You had size, man. Just in the last 15 years it’s changed dramatically. Santa Margarita’s 2011 O line was bigger than the Ram’s, as I recall.
I played HSFB at 220, and I only saw two kids are bigger than that all season long. But they were nowhere near as good looking.
And any smart ass commentary from MDDad will be promptly dealt with ..........Luca

True. I cannot pretend to be as humble as you are. But then again you have more justification.......................Luca
