Any idea why he continues with this stuff? How much turnover was there, and how many minorities even applied? Because he's still trying to make the roster of the more intelligent, more tolerant, more inclusive and more highly evolved and enlightened left. Also, he fails to realize that to be a teacher or coach at Servite, it is mandatory that you are a practicing Catholic. Less than 5% of African Americans are Catholic, trying to find one who is also interested in being a high school teacher & football coach would be slim pickings. Further, I believe Troy Thomas qualifies as a midget, which is indeed a minority group.

Well, well, well. So the recruiting machine at Servite is at it again. It's absolutely ridiculous that the CIF continues to allow Servite to poach other schools' top players, something they've been doing since the first time Troy Thomas was head coach. I'm sure that growing up in Carson with all his Polynesian friends, young Shancco had always dreamed of being Friar. And it's also not surprising that Eric Sondheimer didn't tweet a word about this shameful move. And the stones are now being thrown from the glass house stuck in the ghettos of Santa Ana...

No, it is not a requirement that all Servite teachers or coaches be Catholic, though most are. The exception is in the Theology Department, where one must be Catholic and hold a degree from a Catholic university.

Wow, I missed that one by a mile, sorry about that. I thought Servite was trying to be different than Mater Dei and stay a Catholic school, but I was sadly mistaken. One by one, the parochial schools follow Mater Dei down the black hole of becoming a sports academy in Catholic clothing... But I stand by my claim of him qualifying as a member of a minority group.

I don't see the focus on sports as being necessarily connected to the religious affiliation of the faculty or coaches. You could have a 100% Catholic staff with crummy athletic teams; it's more a function of what students are being accepted and "recruited." If my sole concern was the most absolutely "Catholic" atmosphere, I might send my son to St. Michael's Academy.
You can be confident, though, that one of the clearest strengths of Servite High School (as acknowledged in parent surveys and outside accreditation reports) is its Catholic identity and focus. That being said, we are still part of the Parochial Sports Complex.

I'm just trying to be consistent. I hammer on Mater Dei for creating loopholes where sports overrules Catholicism, I thought I would be fair to do the same to my alma mater in regards to Thomas.
Wasn't Thomas raised Catholic as a youngster and converted to something else later in life? If so, then you could at least say he has a Catholic upbringing. That gives him a connection and an understanding about the details of the schools identity and focus.
I graduated in 1981, I can't recall any teachers or coaches that weren't at every mass or known as being anything other than Catholic. We had one student in my senior class who was not Catholic. His parents were Mormon, they couldn't find a school with the parameters they wanted and they asked the administration to admit their son so he could at least get a faith based education.

Agreed. If midget-tossing ever becomes a CIF sport, all other schools will be fighting for second place. And while I don't know how Thomas was born and raised, I've been friends for years with the guy who supplied Servite with almost all of their football equipment during Thomas' first tour of duty. He got to know Troy very well, and he said the guy is as Mormon as Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

He's been at Servite since January. He's a former teammate of Noah Fifita, T-Mac, and all, on the OC Buckeyes, and wants to play with his old buddies. Coming in as a second semester sophomore, I'm good with that. Shancco (along with OT Nick Martinez) was named 1st team all tournament at Jesse Sapolu's "Men in the Trenches" tournament last week.

If Trinity League football posters come over here, there will be NOTHING left of TOB except for the Wabash/Vilepagan crew.

Hey MDDad did you make it to the intra-squad MD on Friday night? Any thoughts...? I missed the spring game because I was having dinner with my new daughter-in-law, but I spoke with a media guy and a couple coaches this morning and got a few comments. 1. Myles Murao is arguably the best offensive lineman in the state this year who was all but unbeatable at the Men In The Trenches lineman competition last weekend. However, he got all he could handle on the pass rush from a sophomore-to-be edge rusher. Remember the name David Bailey. 2. There's a thread on TOB about the Top 5 WR in Orange County that I think is pretty silly. In my opinion right now, it's John Humphreys and then everybody else. But Mater Dei has two or three WR's that will make that list look even more ludicrous. 3. This defense will have more overall speed than we've had in years. And usually, speed kills.

and if it is an error than why not fix it? MDDad, what ur take on Bru Mc. coming (transferring again) back to USC from Texas? Is it the NCAA will make him sit a year for going in the first place?
